Title IX Aurelia Advocates

Logo featuring scales of justice and the acronym 'TIAA' on a beige background with decorative flourishes.

An independent advocacy organization from Cambridge, MA, that works to ensure compliance with Title IX and advocate for survivors of sexual violence within Cambridge Public Schools.

Our Goals

  • Title IX Compliance

Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex within educational institutions, including sexual misconduct and gender-based violence. All students are entitled to the federally protected civil rights promised by Title IX. We intend to ensure these rights are protected in policy and practice for our classmates and all future Cambridge Public School students.

  • Advocacy and Media

Our group was formed following the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School November walkout against sexual assault at CRLS. From that point forward, we have been committed to advocating for the protection of all students in the Cambridge Public School.

  • Education and Past Work

We believe that all policy changes must go hand in hand with education and cultural shifts.

In addition to our work's policy and advocacy branches, we are committed to creating a culture of consent and respect on and off campus.

Davis v. Monroe County Bd. of Ed

In 1999, our namesake, Aurelia Davis, brought the Monroe County Board of Education to the US Supreme Court on behalf of her fifth-grade daughter, LaShonda Davis. She won the case and set the precedent that Title IX was to be used to hold schools responsible for their response to reports and cases of student-on-student Title IX sexual harassment.
